Submission Guidelines - 2011

Welcome filmmakers!

Please find below all the information you need to submit your film to us for the 15th Edition of the Just For Laughs Film in Montreal, currently scheduled to run in July, 2011. Should you require more information, however, please contact us at film@hahaha.com.

Screener Format

DVD – NTSC encoding preferred.

Shipping

● Sender will be responsible for all screener shipping costs.
● Please be sure to package your submission with care, bubble-wrap or Bubble-lined envelopes are recommended.
(Do not use “fibre-padded” envelopes for shipping, as the fibre may damage your material and our players. The Festival reserves the right to not review submissions sent in fibre-padded envelopes.)

Customs

If you are using a courier service, please ensure to write "Goods on loan for Cultural Festival/Event. No commercial value. Non-pornographic" on the waybill to avoid customs charges. The Festival will not be responsible for any custom fees.

Fee

No entry fee required.

Screener Identification

It is mandatory that your submission be well identified with:
● The title of your film
● The exact length of the film
● Name of the film’s director
● Contact name (if different from director)
● E-mail address
● Phone number
● Full mailing address
Please be sure to include as much of the above information on the actual DVD (or its case) as possible.
To be sure you have included all the relevant information, you can download and complete our Film Information Form and include it with your submission.

Additional Information

Please include the following information with your submission to help us in our reviewing process:
● Country of film’s origin
● Year of production
(We only consider films made within 24 months of the Festival, however,exceptions may be made for regional premieres).
● Previous screenings / Awards won
● Premiere status
(Would Just For Laughs have a World, Canadian, Montreal Premiere of your film?).
● Any other interesting facts about your film you think we should know…
This information can also be filled in on our Film Information Form.

Screening Times and Locations

The number of screenings, days and venues is at the sole discretion of the Festival.

Screening Formats

● Feature films may screen on 35mm or digitally, depending on their venue and source.
● Short films may screen on 35mm, 16mm, HDCam, Digital Beta, BetaSp, MiniDV and DV Cam. Short films submitted for screening on DVD may be compiled onto a screening master cassette by the festival.

Screening Agreement

Upon your film's selection, we will send you our screening agreement to be completed and returned.

Stills and Photos

● Short films: We will need a minimum of one (1) low resolution still or promo photo from your film for our website and our catalogue. We also like to have at least one (1) hi-rez image per film to accomodate media requests.
● Feature films: We request the following in hi-rez - Poster Art; Title Treatment; two (2) or three (3) film stills; distributor logo (where applicable).

Additional Marketing Materials

● Feature Films – A trailer or media friendly clip or clip series from your film on Beta SP, or DVD for promotional purposes.
● Feature Films - A minimum of 3 posters (to be put up at festival screening locations), however, more are welcome.
● Press Kits and or EPKs (the more we have, the easier it will be to promote your film)
● 3-4 Screener copies of your film on VHS or DVD (the easier it is for us to show your film to journalists, the more likely they are to write about it).
● Postcards/handbills/pins etc.
